Are Polymer80 Frames Legal in Texas? Builder's Guide to 80% Frames and Lowers

Polymer80 frames and 80% lowers are legal to buy and finish for personal use in Texas. There is no state permit, no registration and no serial number requirement for a home-built firearm you keep. Federal law still applies: an unfinished frame is not a firearm until you machine it, and once finished it cannot be sold or transferred without following the same rules as any other gun. What a Polymer80 80% frame actually is

A PF940v2, PF940C, PF940SC, PF9SS or PF45 frame ships with the rails, barrel block and pin holes unfinished. The jig that comes in the frame-and-jig kit locates every cut. Which frame fits which slide

• PF940v2 — full size, takes Glock 17, 22, 24, 31, 34 and 35 pattern slides.
• PF940C / PF940Cv1 — compact, Glock 19, 23 and 32 pattern slides.
• PF940SC — subcompact, Glock 26 and 27 pattern slides.
• PF9SS — single stack, Glock 43 pattern slides.
• PF45 — large frame, Glock 20 and 21 pattern slides.

AR-15 and LR-308 80% lowers

The RL556v3 and G150 80% AR-15 lowers leave the fire-control pocket solid. The RL556v3 jig clamps the lower and guides a router or drill press through the pocket, the trigger slot and the pin holes. Large-frame builders should use an LR-308 pattern 80% lower and confirm the upper and parts kit match the DPMS spec.

Where we cannot ship

Several states and cities restrict or ban unserialized frames and receivers, and we will not ship there. The list changes. If you are outside Texas, check your state and city rule before you order and message us if you are unsure. Orders to restricted addresses are cancelled and refunded.

Tools you need

A drill press or router, a vise, the jig that matches your frame family exactly, and the drill bits and end mill that ship in the kit. Every jig kit we sell lists the frame generation it fits; the wrong jig will not locate the cuts.
