This is a Hungarian SA 85M from FEG in Budapest, built around 1987 to 1989 with a 16-inch barrel in 7.62x39mm and sold on consignment under stock number L2026-07591. It came into the country through K.B.I. in post-ban form: thumbhole stock, no bayonet lug, no cleaning rod retainer and an unthreaded muzzle. Serial SM26470 matches throughout. The bore is bright with strong rifling, and the original factory finish survives across the metal and the wood. The original shipping box and a green sling are included.

Collectors of Cold War rifles will know this as one of the late-1980s Hungarian imports, and the matching numbers and factory finish make it a keeper rather than a project. For a Texas owner it also works as a short, handy carbine. The 7.62x39 is a legal centerfire choice for North Zone deer, where the general season runs November 7, 2026 to January 3, 2027, with a four-deer bag and no more than two bucks.
