A John Rigby and Co. hammer double rifle, serial 14700, made in London in the late 1800s and chambered for the 577/500 black powder cartridge. The 26-inch barrels open on an under lever and the forend comes off with a lever catch. The action is cut with traditional British scroll, has sculpted fences, and both hammers carry safety notches. The walnut is original and checkered, with the original checkered steel butt plate, a pistol grip cap and a large button sling mount; length of pull is 14.25 inches. The bores are excellent, some original case color remains on the action, and the wood and metal show light wear and handling marks. A leather luggage case comes with it.

This is a collector's rifle for a Texas buyer who appreciates London gunmaking, and the excellent bores and surviving case color are the details that matter at this age. The big black powder chambering and the cased presentation make it a centerpiece rather than a lease rifle.
