U.S. Model 1816 flintlock musket by Wickham .69 caliber

This is an original U.S. Model 1816 flintlock musket made by M.T. Wickham of Philadelphia in 1835, a .69 caliber smoothbore with a 45-inch round barrel that is US marked and proofed. It is one of a contract lot of 940 delivered to New Jersey that year, and the barrel carries US, JM, P and NJ stamps with 1835 on the tang. The lock reads U.S. over M.T.WICKHAM ahead of the hammer and Phil 1835 at the rear. There is no serial number.

Condition is as stated: the iron parts have gone to a smooth brown patina, traces of the tobacco-brown finish survive on the trigger guard, the stock carries nicks, dings and mars with a clear cartouche, and there is a visible crack ahead of the front lock screw. The lock holds at half and full cock. For a Texas buyer this is a collector's piece in early U.S. martial arms, a smoothbore to display rather than a field gun.
