A Winchester Model 1892 lever rifle chambered in .25-20, made in 1924 and sold used under stock number W10323. It left the factory as a special-order gun with a half magazine rather than the full-length tube. The barrel carries a dark gray patina with traces of original blue, while the frame has gone mostly to brown. The wood is described as very good and has been refinished. The bore is dark but the rifling is still strong.

The .25-20 is a small centerfire cartridge, so this is a rifle for varmints, small game and the range rather than a first choice for North Zone whitetails. Texas allows any legal firearm for deer except rimfire, but a cartridge this light belongs on lighter work: jackrabbits on a lease, pests around the barn, or an afternoon ringing steel. The half magazine keeps the rifle trim between the hands, and the 1924 date puts it in the years when the 1892 was still a working saddle gun.
