A Winchester Model 62A chambered for .22 Short only, made in 1958 toward the end of production. It is the non-Gallery version, without the red-letter Gallery marking, and the barrel is stamped .22 Short. Barrel length is the correct 23 inches for the Short chambering, which agrees with Ned Schwing's reference on Winchester slide-action rifles, and the barrel is correct to the serial number. Original blue is put at 98 to 99 percent and the bore is excellent.

A .22 Short-only 62A without the Gallery marking is scarce, and that scarcity is the point of this rifle. It belongs in a Texas Winchester collection rather than on a hunting lease, and rimfire may not be used on deer here in any case. The high percentage of original blue means it should be handled as a condition piece, shot lightly if at all, and stored where the finish stays dry.
