U.S. Eagle Head Sword

A U.S. eagle head sword from circa 1800 to 1820 with a curved, single-edged 28-inch blade and an overall length of 33.5 inches. The blade is in good condition with light oxidation, almost no pitting and etching still visible on both sides. The ivory handle has a small crack up the left side, and the brass handguard carries a small crack that appears to have been repaired.

Compared with rougher examples, this is the eagle head sword for the Texas collector who wants to see the etching: both faces still show it, and the blade has escaped heavy pitting. The ivory and the brass guard each carry a small flaw, both described plainly here, and the guard repair should be looked at closely in photographs. It belongs in a display of early American swords rather than in use, and the curved blade makes it an attractive wall piece.
