U.S. Eagle Head Sword

A U.S. eagle head sword dated circa 1800 to 1820, with a 30-inch blade and an overall length of 35.5 inches. The grip is engraved ivory and has a chip that was repaired, and the handguard and pommel are decorative brass. The blade shows battle wear with heavy oxidation and pitting in several areas.

Eagle pommel swords of this period are collected for the eagle itself and the brass furniture, and this example keeps both along with an engraved grip. The blade condition is honest and rough, with pitting and heavy oxidation that the listing does not hide, so it suits a Texas collector building a display of early American swords rather than someone after a clean blade. Note the repaired chip in the ivory when you compare it with other examples, and ask for photographs of the worst areas of the blade.
