US Eagle Head Sword

This American eagle-head sword, stock number SW1720, is dated by the seller to roughly the 1800s through the 1820s. It measures 33.5 inches overall on a 28-inch blade. The blade grades good and still shows its original blue along with the etching. The pommel is the eagle head that gives the pattern its name, worked in ivory, and that part is rated very good. A scabbard comes with it; the seller rates it good, with cracking running throughout and patina on the brass. Taken together the sword is described as good.

For a Texas collector this is a piece to display and study rather than handle hard. The points worth a close look are the surviving blue and etching on a blade this early and the condition of the ivory grip, which is better than the scabbard that protects it. It is listed as used, and the condition notes above are the grade to go by.
