A pair of LePage flintlock pistols made around 1840 for the Middle Eastern market, each in 65 caliber with a 13.5-inch barrel. The barrels keep more than half their original blue and carry silver overlay near the locks, which are marked LePage Mouthier / ARQer DU ROI. The mounts are embossed silver throughout, the stocks show only minor handling wear, and there are no cracks or chips. The pistols carry no serial numbers.
Several similar pairs are known, and it has been suggested they were made on orders from King Louis Philippe for presentation to Middle Eastern royalty. These are display pieces for a Texas collector of fine European arms rather than shooters, and the silver work is the reason to own them. The transfer follows the handgun process at a licensed dealer: photo ID, Form 4473 and a NICS check, with no state permit, registration or waiting period.
