A modern-production Smith and Wesson 629-6, serial DRF3321, chambered in .44 Magnum with a 6-inch barrel. It is the stainless steel double-action version with rubber grips. The bore is very good and the revolver is rated very good overall, which for a stainless gun usually means little more than light handling marks on the bright surfaces.

For a Texas shooter this is a woods revolver and a big-bore range gun for anyone who enjoys the thump of a full-house .44. The stainless finish handles sweat and coastal humidity better than blue steel, and the 6-inch barrel gives enough sight radius and velocity for deliberate shooting at distance. The rubber grips soak up a share of the recoil. Buying in Texas takes photo identification and Form 4473 at a licensed dealer; no permit, no registration, and a current License to Carry can replace the federal check at most dealers.
